Sam Rainsy congratulates Venezuela's president Hugo Chavez

Hugo Chavez of Venezuela (L) and Hungo Sen of Cambodia (R)
KI-Media Note:
The following is a sarcastic letter sent by opposition leader Sam Rainsy to Hugo Chavez of Venezuela. It pokes fun at those rulers who cling on to power for life, one of whom is no other than Hun Sen of Cambodia. In our opinion, this letter should not be mistaken as the opposition leader condoning unlimited term limit for rulers in any country.

OPEN LETTER
February 16, 2009

Dear President Chavez,

On behalf of the Cambodian people whom I represent as an elected Member of Parliament, I would like to warmly congratulate you on the occasion of your personal victory in last Sunday's constitutional referendum that will allow you to run for president as many times as you please, without any term limit.

Maybe, after countless consecutive presidential election victories, you will still be at the head of Venezuela when you are as old as Cuba's Fidel Castro before he stepped down in favor of his brother Raul Castro.

May I ask you to do a favor for the Cambodian people? Could you please convince Cambodia's prime minister, Mr Hun Sen, to be as brave and as decent as you when you decided to hold this referendum on term limits. Like you, our Prime Minister wants to stay in power for ever, or at least -- he says -- until he reaches the age of 90. He has been in power since the early 80's and we would have to be patient with him for another 30 years. But unlike you, he doesn't bother at all to seek to know whether his people want him to remain at the head of their country for so long, possibly for two (lost) generations.

Yes, we want a referendum here in Cambodia like in Venezuela!

Thank you for the good example that you have shown to all leaders who cling to power for the impunity it provides and who want to compete with God in the search of eternity.

Sincerely,

[signed]
Sam Rainsy
Member of Parliament
National Assembly of the Kingdom of Cambodia
Phnom Penh

Will Prime Minister Hun Sen be Prime Minister for life?

What is Sam Rainsy thinking? This is a very bad move for him. Chavez is far worst than Hun Sen. Sam Rainsy should just just his mouth.

H.E Sam Rainsy honestly asks Venezuela President, MR. Hugo Chavez, to help bring change in political system to Cambodia.

But the question is what makes anyone, including H.E. Rainsy, thinks that South America President will be able to persuade Samdech Mohasena Thipatei Techo Hun Sen to get of his sweet seat at the Senate?

Hasn't the "Sdech Kranh" already made up his mind?

Only God has an appointment for him. Meanwhile all should be patient and keep fingers crossed.

Believing in Divine power and appointment makes good sense. But one must exercise a strong patience as time keeps ticking.

P.S.
I look at my word verification now and it is "granted". A coincidence? Well, ...

Sam Rainsy - you are crazy. this is not the first time you hurt yourself with self-inflicting big mouth about issue. As a leader, you should count to 10000 (mouy meun) before you say something. let me remind you.... a couple of things you made mistakes and it will haunt you in the future.
1. 50 +1 issues - you remember... you have been, and will be a sore loser all the time from now on...because of your "my way or high way" initiating this bill.
2. Spreading the rummor without having clear support proofs...and you are now is still being accused of ... many of them and recently with Hor 5 Hong.
3. Now with Chavez..

Have you learned something?
Have you thought that you made some mistakes in life, and try to step back and try to see if you have anthing you should do differently? Do not repeat the same mistakes - repeating the same mistakes is the worst thing you can do in life not even in politics - let me tell you that in California, USA, we have a three strikes you are out law...
I have hope that you are my last hope but the history and your recent and reapeated stupid similar activities/mistakes created a unique situation of predictable dictatorship style... you are very much like Chavez and Hen Sun!

Conclusion/recommendation:
learn from your mistakes.
Count to one million first before open your big mouth.. look at yourself first before pointing fingers at others. Make sure to utilize the lessons learned from your past activities (every one of them). have a clear mitigation plan for any activities... remember "GOD created you with two ears and only one mouth"

If you do not do based on my recommendation, here is my prediction on your political life:
Your potitical career as of now can be only successful if an only if Hun Sen somehow self-destructed, otherwise quit it and be a banker..

Au revoir

Dear Mr. SamRainsy,

I don't know you are right or wrong on proposing Hun Sen that idea. As my capacity understanding on Cambodian rooted issues, if Hun Sen makes public survey now or these few years, he will definitely get it satisfactorily because how many percent of our beloved people are able to understand and think critically on his leadership??? Just look at his leadership style, stupid, crazy, heartless, but how many know about this? only a few among your groups!!!

So, I think Cambodian should not do this survey at this time at all!!!

Thanks

not sure if the letter meant to be sarcastic or naive. Chavez does want to rule for a long time like HS does. If a referendum is given now, does SR really believe that CPP would not win any election/referendum that favors CPP? Besides, Cambodia already has no term limit...

it is very confusing!

never mind... just saw KI disclaiming note above. But, seriously, was the letter sent to Chavez? If yes, it is still an immature act to send a sarcastic note to another country's (il/legit by your own assumption) leader.

To Au revoir & Mr. Sam Rainsy!!

I absolutely agree with you on many points you raised and pointed out for H.E Mr. SamRainsy. Especially ethical/moral words!!!

Mr. Sam Rainsy, I admire you very much for your bravery to fight with Hun Sen at all cost, because of that, I would like to give you some moral paths, ok? We know that the world has changed and being changing by the power of public speeches. Listeners listen and give credit to the public speakers like you. I know you will give many public speaks in coming monks for lower house election, therefore, whenever you make public speaks, please please please make sure your speeches are:
1) ethically/morally sound, 2)Critically thought and prepared, 3) True words, speak from your purred heart, moral intention and compassionate words
4) Your opponent's weak-points, should not come out of your mouth, don't speak about the weakness of your opponents, looking, analyzing and learning from those weak-points to strengthen your inner quality of leadership. Don't attack (even verbally) your opponent, but give them your compassionate guidance through telly or showing them your leadership style. Otherwise, listeners would think that you are a bad-mouth person, and
5) you must practice highly moral principles if you want to gain true believers!!!

Your works tell us about your personal ethics/believe and leadership. Please be strong, confident and moral!!!

Thanks

My Good Fellow Khmers,

Please, let’s not jump to conclusions. While the letter to President Chavez bears the name Sam Rainsy, I do not see a hand-written signature verifying him as the actual author. As we all know, in political organizations there are often many hands and voices involved in the preparation of communications. It is likely that someone other than Sam Rainsy himself crafted this letter. Anyone who has followed the career and behavior of Sam Rainsy will know that sarcasm and outlandish statements are simply not his style.

Furthermore, the letter states “Yes, we want a referendum here in Cambodia like in Venezuela!” Is it logical to think that Sam Rainsy would expect such a referendum to work in his favor? I think not. After all, it was only last year that Hun Sen, through whatever means, was able to claim victory in the national election. Surely if a referendum were to be held in Cambodia, Hun Sen would use the same tactics to ensure a ‘yes’ result, thereby validating multiple terms, giving him free reign and a blank cheque to continue wielding power until he’s too old to chew his porridge.

Sam Rainsy does not need to refer or defer to any South American country in building his case for taking over from Hun Sen in Cambodia. He simply needs to communicate directly to the people of Cambodia and implore them to come to their senses before the next national election, for that is when people really need to speak out. If indeed Mr. Rainsy is the author of the letter to President Chavez, I would encourage him to re-focus his attention closer to home where thoughts of a referendum should be abandoned and energies channeled to the long road ahead to the next election.

Sound like Ah Scam Rainxy is very desperate to get funding for his party from Chavez. Unfortunately, however, Chavez is too smart for him.

Just watch, it won't be long until Pouk Ah Scam Rainxy starts to pick on Chavez before you know it.

Sam, you should be more concern about many issues involving with Khmer people instead of making a unwise action preaching other country leader's of their political movements. Don't be stupid by poking your nose in the wrong places.
What a pathetic move!!!
